Each year, the envirothon theme changes to a current environmental issue that is chosen by the NCF Envirothon international host. Each of the categories will have learning objectives that focus on the new theme as well as their more typical objectives.

The challenge is a unique category. Rather than testing in the field, teams will research and problem-solve to meet the posted challenge. At the competition, teams will present their findings and recommendations to a panel of judges.
